The 400-meter dash sparks one of the biggest debates in track and field: Is it a sprint or a hybrid of speed and endurance? Traditional coaches claim, "Feed the Cats works for short sprints but not the 400," yet this perspective may be holding athletes back.
In this video, I challenge the legendary philosophy of Coach Clyde Hart, who famously described the 400m as a mix of sprint speed and half-miler endurance. Instead, I argue that the 400 is a true sprint event, requiring a speed-first training approach.
I believe that sprinting and max speed trumps endurance training when it comes to the 400, and I walkthrough this approach throughout this presentation.
If you're ready to rethink your 400m training and embrace the sprint mindset, this is the video for you.
