In 1982 a rapidly growing company called Applied Computer Techniques (ACT) out of the United Kingdom decided it might be best to quickly leapfrog Sirius Systems Technology as IBM closed in on the market and their Sirius 1 system, while more powerful than the IBM offerings it began to be threatened by looming European sales of the 5150. Taking many design ideas from Sirius and adapting them to their own product while at the same time adopting new technologies before even Apple was shipping products with the same components, in 1983 the Apricot PC would launch to European (and later North American) markets with much fanfare, strong sales and immense popularity.....for now.
In this video I will tour you around the upgraded model of the Apricot PC, known as the Apricot PC Xi. After talking about the hardware we will look at some of the applications that were available for this MS-DOS compatible machine.
