Teody Boylie “Bong” Perez is a recipient of the Datu Bago Award in 2016, the highest honor conferred by Davao City to its constituents. He completed his Doctoral Program of Plastic Expression in Kyushu Sangyo University, Japan in March 2005 and Masters in Art Education at Saga University, Japan in 2002. He got his BFA in painting from Ford Academy of the Arts, Davao City in 1991. At present, he is teaching at the College of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of the Philippines Mindanao.
He was a recipient of three scholarships: The Bachus Memorial Scholarship (1987-1988), Davao Scholarship Trust Foundation (1988-1991) and Japanese Government Scholarship- MONBUSHO (1998-2005). Among his various awards, achievements and recognitions were 4 first prize wins in international art competitions and recently, the Grand Prize Winner (Magnanimity Category) in the Philippine Quincentennial National Art Competition 2021.
Bong has already mounted 15 solo exhibitions and has participated in more than 22 group shows both local and international. He designed the cover of ‘Beach Spirit’ a book published in Sydney, AUSTRALIA in 2001. He was featured many times in the newsletters and university magazines in JAPAN such as ‘Infos’, a bi-monthly Press of Overseas Students of Fukuoka City in 2004, twice featured in ‘Junction’ KSU Foreign Student Newspaper in 2003 and 2006. His work- “Pamana” became the cover design of ‘KSU Foreign Student’s Guidebook’ in Fukuoka City, JAPAN in 2004. He illustrated two Japanese Children’s books published by Imajinsha Publishing Company in Tokyo, JAPAN in 2015 and 2017.
Bong’s media are oil and acrylic with the subjects of landscapes, ethnic culture, and people in the urban areas. Several of his artworks are now in private collections in the Philippines, Germany, France, London, USA, New Zealand, Malaysia, and Japan.
