This documentary immerses us in the daily lives of the inhabitants of Aleppo, Syria's second city, in the midst of a civil war. Through the eyes of Syrians living or fighting in this devastating conflict, the film explores life in Aleppo, devastated by war, over the course of two trips made by the journalist, one in January and the other in April, for the documentary broadcast in a special issue of Le Monde en face on Syria.
Initially, the journalist chooses to follow the rebels of Aleppo, those who fight in the so-called "liberated" zones. Sometimes former workers, drivers or teachers, these fighters without military experience form a resistance that fights against a dictatorial regime led by Bashar al-Assad. This film gives voice to individuals, men and women, who, without training, learn to fight for their freedom.
The documentary presents us with a series of poignant portraits: from Nour, a woman fighter who joined her husband on the front, to Zacharia, who sacrificed everything for the revolution, to Abu Oudaheh, a young boy whose emotional voice ignites the demonstrators. Through these stories, Camille Courcy gives us an intimate vision of this interminable conflict, showing at the same time the humanity, the diversity, the fears and the hopes of the rebels.
