This episode we learn all about the Beatles 1964 visit to Key West, Florida. Needing a place to escape from Hurricane Dora, the Beatles were flown to Key West to escape the storm, There they spent two unforgettable days on the island. Paul McCartney, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr stayed at the then Key Wester Motel. They spent time with fellow musicians, Coffee Butler, Clarence Frog Man Henry and others. Paul and John ended up having a tearful late night conversation. This led Paul to write the song "Here Today" commemorating that night and as a tribute after John was assassinated in 1980. The Key Wester has been demolished but a single building was kept as a memorial to the Beatles stay there. See the building today and learn how and why the Beatles arrived in Key West in 1964.
Jimmy Buffett came to Key West in 1971. He became good friends with Paul many decades later. This friendship would last until Jimmy's dying day. Paul played "Let it Be" to Jimmy as he was dying and played it at the tribute in his honor after his death.
Note - this is not a documentary - this is story telling. I try to get the information as accurate as possible but if I misspeak, or get a date or name wrong, please feel free to correct me in the comments. I make no money for this and do this totally out of my love for Key West, Jimmy Buffett and the music that is the soundtrack to my life.
