The EMR and EMT NREMT exams have officially changed once again! The National Registry of EMTs (NREMT) has updated the content domains and question styles for both Basic Life Support (BLS) examinations. Starting April 7, 2025, the new NREMT exams for EMR and EMT candidates will roll out nationwide for all test-takers.
In this video, I break down all the changes to the NREMT content areas and how to best prepare for the updated exams. The new content areas now include Scene Size-Up and Safety, Primary Assessment, Secondary Assessment, Patient Treatment and Transport, and Operations. There will be a greater emphasis on patient assessment in these new examinations.
That said, you’ll still need to know airway, cardiology, trauma, medical, OB/GYN, pediatrics, and operations. This update is primarily a relabeling of content domains to modernize them while keeping the core knowledge the same. The NREMT conducts a practice analysis every 4-6 years to evaluate and update the exam as needed.
