Samatha and vipassanā are widely taught these days - both in the East and the West - as a set of meditation methods that (supposedly) lead to calm and insight. But what did the _Buddha_ mean when he talked about samatha and vipassanā? And is that something which can be learned on a 10-day group retreat? In this video, we take a close look at the original context of samatha and vipassanā and how that relates to the practice of jhāna, as well as to the seven factors of awakening.
