November 8, 324 AD. The Roman Empire has already ruled for more than five centuries over lands that extend from the Atlantic to Mesopotamia and from the North Sea to the Sahara. Rome, the city where it all began, is now 1,077 years old and is the largest, most populous and richest city in the world, but Emperor Constantine I has decided to found a new capital from which to rule the Roman World. It will be a new Rome that will rise on an old Greek city, Byzantium, which, located on the Bosphorus, will control the roads and routes that go from Asia to Europe and from the Black Sea to the Mediterranean. The new Rome will be called Constantinople and, from May 11, 330, it will grow, become richer and age over the course of 1,123 years as the seat of the Roman Empire.
