[1958 US issue on Challenge 1016]
The Champs were a small rock band that recorded for Gene Autry's Challenge label in the late 50's. They are best known for this song "Tequila," the B-side to "Train to Nowhere." Originally a throwaway track, "Tequila" was "discovered" by radio DJs and it rocketed to the charts. They released a few more singles, such as "Rancho Rock" and "Tequila Twist," but did not find as massive of a success as with "Tequila." The song has been covered many times by artists such as Stan Kenton, and even had an obvious influence on a track in Nickelodeon's "Spongebob Squarepants." It is also notable for being featured in the biker scene in "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure."
This record is recorded straight from my AT-LP120 and its built-in preamp, into a single-channel EQ, and then into my SoundBlaster ZXR sound card. No editing, just raw audio heard as it should be. Enjoy!
