In the late 1960s. Jimmy Savile was on the rise of popularity with the Brotish public, thanks to being the presenter of Top of the Pops. Moving from place to place, one of his home locations was a caravan in Cragg Vale, near Hebden Bridge. In 1967, the church at Cragg Vale, St John the Baptist in the Wilderness, was without a vicar. Jimmy became a church warden, handed the keys, and would soon dress in a lurid green robe and preach from the pulpit. in 1969 he appeared on the BBC programme Songs of Praise as both presenter and preacher. This was just the start of the notorious DJ and presenter using his influence to 'collect keys' which over the next 30 years would include Broadmoor, Stoke Mandeville Hospital, and be protected for his despicable crimes by the rich and powerful of the United Kingdom.
