After the day the DM Class arrived, i was intrigued by the size and the look of them, these are Impressive Locomotives. The DM Class Has A C 175, 16 Cylinder, 3000 Kilowatt, 4000 Horsepower Caterpillar Diesel Engine.
It will be sad, to see the Dx class phased out I hope a few will be saved for preservation. the Dx's have done very well since 1975 and being in service for almost 56 years pulling trains I reckon they are too good to be cut up and should be sold to South Africa to start a new life.
It will be interesting to see how these new DM Class Locomotives perform with longer and heavier trains on the KiwiRail Network. as the first two prototype DM's 8012 and 8029 have arrived there are still another 55 more to come 46 for the South Island and 19 for the North Island these locomotives are the future Of New Zealand Railways.
I am looking forward to test runs and to see how these new Prototype DM Locomotives Perform and sound .
As Interest in this video you will get a view of locomotive checks and also Stadler Official working on this locomotive ive spent 5 days watching and photographing every movement including having to wait 6 hours for DM 8029 to be started up...
There Is no doubt that these DM's will run rings around a DL
All the best KiwiRail. I wish you great progress into the future of New Zealand Railways
Cheers Team!
