On June 22nd 2019, we took part in Chase The Sun's inaugural UK North, long-distance cycling event on our tandem bicycle. Starting in Tynemouth on the English North Sea coast, at dawn on the longest day, we had to cycle across the UK, to reach Prestwick on the Firth of Clyde, in Scotland, by dusk - in company with a couple of hundred others whose ambitions ranged from setting the fastest time with the fewest stops, to just finishing, regardless of how long ago the sun might have disappeared. The event is promoted as a 'ride', not a 'race' and speaking for ourselves, we had one of the most relaxed and enjoyable experiences of our cycling lives, still finishing half an hour up against the schedule provided by the organisers. The weather was perfect and the ride - midges apart - was trouble-free. For an event that is FREE to enter, the organisers went above and beyond what we were expecting. So much so that we're doing the Italian version next year! Give it a go, you won't be disappointed!
