I’ve been asked a gazillion times, “What’s the fastest way to succeed in sync licensing?” Some folks have asked, “What’s the easiest way to launch my music licensing career?”

Well, it’s the beginning of a New Year, and I’m sure many of you watching this have decided that 2025 is the year in which you’ll finally hunker down and go for the gold with film and TV music licensing.

If you really want to know the fastest and/or easiest way to succeed, don’t miss this episode of TAXI TV! Personally, I think what I’m going to recommend can truly be at least a bit of a shortcut. Ready to blast off in 2025? Then watch this episode, and see if you agree!

0:02 - TAXI CEO, Michael Laskow welcomes the viewers and explains that he is often asked about the easiest and fastest way to get into the sync world.
3:20 - You don't need to write a lyric. Simple instrumental cues are a great way to get into sync.
5:24 - Michael reads the listings from the past 12 months in various categories and genres.
9:18 - Michael reads details from instrumental opportunities from the past year that TAXI provided
12:18 - Michael explains that clients are looking for "flavor" to enhance the scene in various countries with instruments that are from that area
16:30 - You don't need to be composer of the year! Don't overthink it, the music needs to be useable and fit the client's needs
16:57 - Don't take someone "out of the zone" with tricks or fancy flourishes. Less is more, think pads. They are not looking for composer of the year.
19:42 - There are so many instrumental opportunities. Libraries are often looking to refresh their catalog and are looking for a lot of material.
21:08 - Michael continues to read instrumental listing information and explains what clients are looking for.
27:48 - Keep it simple! Use pads to set a mood or make a place easily identifiable determined by melody and instrumentation
33:43 - Michael gives an example of visual art and how it can help or hinder the "vibe" of a scene
35:30 - What is the vibe? Provide the client with what they are looking for.
42:31 - Tension cues are easy to create and often needed.
50:37 - The music does not need to be 100% authentic, does it make you feel like you are in the country or place where the show is taking place? Flavor is often okay and enough
55:22 - All you have to do is nail one piece, then change the mood or melody and create a bunch!
58:25 - Give the client what they need! They are looking for music that can be used all the time for many scenes. Don't overdo it, or overthink it!
1:05:00 - Quirky dramedy or tension cues as well as Hip-Hop cues are used, requested, and licensed the most.
1:09:42 - TAXI will run listings and sometimes re-run listings when the client needs more music!
1:16:05 - You're not trying to be the best, clients are looking for music that fits the scene or mood, and it needs to solve a problem.
1:17:52 - Zig when everyone else zags! Your probability of getting a forward and licensed goes up!
1:19:24 - Indie filmmakers come to TAXI looking for music. The majority of the music in those films comes from TAXI!
1:20:05 - Cocktail Jazz instrumentals are used all the time to set the scene under dialog. Michael explains why they earn money.
1:23:03 - Instrumentals are the easiest and the fastest way to get into sync!
1:23:55 - Michael explains how you can't go wrong with Hip-Hop instrumentals, and sometimes all that is needed are the stems.
1:29:16 - Just because you can, doesn't mean you should! Less is more, don't overdo it!
1:30:14: The fastest and easiest way to break into Film and television licensing are instrumentals. There are tons of opportunities and the most successful TAXI members primarily create instrumental!
