Now and again, we’re privileged to see a truly historic MGB and there aren't many that are more iconic than the Marathon MGB. The car took part in the 1968 London-Sydney Marathon rally – over 10,000 miles in 10 days of driving, plus a sea crossing from Bombay in India to Fremantle in Australia. The car was driven by Jean Denton (later to become Baroness Denton) and co-driven by Tom Boyce and finished the event in 42nd place.
The car disappeared after the event and was found in a scrapyard and the MG Car Club decided to buy it. The video includes interviews with Alec Poole, one of the competitors on the 1968 event, and also with the main MG Car Club members involved with the restoration, John Watson and Roger Boyes
We also take the car on the road with Neil Brant, MG Car Club board member and member of the MGB Register so see how it performs 56 years after it took part in the Marathon Rally
The club has decided to sell the car and it will be up for sale at the Bonhams auction at the Goodwood Revival meeting in September 2024.
