Smart bulbs have been around a lot longer than you might think. The first were the IQ Lighting series introduced by Philips in 1994, based on a computer microchip developed by Beacon Technology. At the flick of a switch, these bulbs could adjust to multiple lighting levels, gradually dim down to a night light, or automatically shut off after 6 hours and then turn on again the next day. Also in 1994, Abco introduced the Bulb Boss, allowing you to turn any regular light bulb into a smart bulb with these features.
