Nature is the best engineer. This is an idea that underpins the world of biomimetics, or biologically inspired engineering. The belief is that by imitating nature, we can learn how to improve our man made systems. We can see this in action in this video, where bionic membranes are used to make highly efficient propellers. However, not all it what it seems. I went to METSTRADE to find out more.
