Hanged Drawn and Quartered was a brutal execution method in medieval Britain, reserved for high treason. The condemned was first dragged (drawn) to the execution site, then hanged until near death. Next, they were disemboweled, with their innards burned before them. The executioner then beheaded the prisoner, and their body was chopped into four parts (quartered). These remains were displayed across the kingdom as a warning. This punishment, common from the 13th to 18th centuries, was designed to instill fear and deter treason. It was fully abolished in 1870. The phrase "drawn and quartered" still symbolizes extreme punishment today. Keywords: drawn and quartered, medieval execution, high treason, brutal punishment, historical executions, medieval torture.
