In the year 2000, Hannover Germany was to hold a great Expo. With it, they wanted a new, innovative bus that has never been seen before. To accomplish this, Hannover hired James Irvine, a famous British industrial designer to create a bus that has never been seen before.
In a big way, Irivine definitely succeeded. With its rounded windows, double doors and modern interior with new technology for the driver, the bus, based on the Mercedes Benz Citaro 0530, was an astonishing piece of transportation design.
101 of the Irvine Citaros were built for Hannover, and Leipzig also received some of these buses.
They remained in service until 2016, and about 10 or so survive today.
