Prime lenders and new car dealerships typically do not install aftermarket GPS tracking devices. In fact, it’s far more common among subprime lenders, and even more so in Buy Here Pay Here (BHPH) dealerships, where risk mitigation tools like GPS trackers are standard practice. That said, ALWAYS check your paperwork. Some agreements disclose the presence of GPS trackers or allow for them to be used as a condition of financing. This video isn’t legal advice, just a guide to help you think critically.
Jumping to conclusions just because you found a GPS device can lead you down the wrong path. Many of these units are low-quality, redundant to factory-installed theft recovery systems, and can act more like parasitic battery drains than high-tech security. They also raise major privacy concerns, especially when data is shared with third parties — which, yes, is something buried in many user agreements.
