The Call of Duty zombie mode was supposed to be a secret in Call of Duty: World at War to reward those who had taken the time to beat that game's campaign. In the game's second map, "Verrückt," perk machines were added to aid the player in their survival, and the rest is history. In this video essay, I explore that history, and how those same perk machines have evolved across every installment of the zombie mode.
