Why talk about the Holocaust again and repeat well-known stories about deportations and gas chambers? There are already enough horrors in our lives, so why recall old ones? Because remembering these past horrific events is, if not a guarantee, at least a hope that we can avoid new ones. Because today, antisemitism is growing worldwide, and thousands of people believe the Holocaust never happened. Because the Holocaust is a topic that allows us to discuss what concerns us all: the issue of guilt and responsibility, and the question of how individuals and society as a whole manage to cope with severe trauma—if they manage at all.
