IMA Industrial Problems Seminar Speaker: Elizabeth Sprangel (Hennepin County) "The Human Side of Data: Using Data Science to Drive Social Impact" Data science has major potential to drive meaningful social impact. In this talk, we will explore various data driven use-cases in human services, like enhancing outcomes around vulnerable populations and analyzing resource allocation within county programs. This talk will highlight real Hennepin County examples where insights have contributed to decision-making in areas such as housing, public health, and social work. Additionally, we will discuss the day-to-day life of a human services data scientist, touching on the unique challenges, ethical considerations, and rewarding aspects of the work.
