The Intention Circle: A Drawing Exercise for Self-Discovery & Letting Go

Video Not Working? Fix It Now

This is one of my all-time favorite Art Meditation exercises. And it's super duper easy (no artistic talent required; friendly for all ages and abilities). Through the act of intention-setting, followed by drawing a coloring a circle, you can discover profound insights and connect to your Self. Below are the 3 examples of intentions you can set before beginning this exercise, along with some meditative prompts to deepen your reflection and creative expression. Helpful tip: Choose a single intention for your drawing. If you have multiple intentions you'd like to sit with, do a separate drawing for each. Intention 1: "Receive an Intuitive Message" - What do I need to know right now? - If my circle could speak, what would it say? - What feelings arise as I move my hand across the paper? - Do I notice any symbols, marks, or images emerging? What do they have to say? - What parts of my life feel like this circle? - What do I feel drawn to repeat or highlight, and what might that mean? - If this circle held advice for me, what would it suggest? Intention 2: "Self-Discovery" - What's going on with me right now? - What do I have to learn? - What are my strengths? - How do the colors or marks I choose reflect my current state of being? - What sensations do I notice in my body as I create? - Are there areas within the circle that feel unresolved? How might I explore those? - Am I judging myself during this process? Why might that be? - What is one insight I can take from this drawing about how I see myself? Intention 3: "Letting Go" - What do I need to let go of? - What stories do I tell myself about myself that are holding me back? - Where in this circle do I feel heaviness or resistance? What might that mean? - How does it feel to let my hand move freely, without overthinking? - Are there colors, lines, or marks that represent something I’m ready to release? - Are there symbols, marks, or images in my drawing that could mirror the stories about my life I’m holding onto? - How does the act of coloring or mark-making help me soften or release tension? These questions aim to help you connect deeply with your intuition, explore your inner world, and facilitate healing and release. Trust the process and allow your creative choices to unfold naturally without judgment.
