Do you know why Jesus Christ is called the Lion of the Tribe of Judah? Saying that Jesus is the Lion of Judah carries significant meaning in the Bible. When the apostle John had the vision of the sealed book with seven seals in Revelation, he saw that no one was able to open that book. However, one of the elders in John's vision in Revelation said that there stood the Lion of the Tribe of Judah, the Root of David, to open the book and loose its seven seals (Revelation 5:5). The meaning of the Lion of the Tribe of Judah in the book of Revelation is connected to Jacob's blessing over his sons in the book of Genesis. Judah was one of Jacob's sons, and the Bible records that when Jacob blessed him, he compared Judah to a lion, a symbol of strength and royalty. This indicated that the Tribe of Judah would govern over the other tribes of Israel. Thus, the Tribe of Judah became the royal tribe of God's people when the dynasty of David was established. But Jacob's blessing found its ultimate fulfillment only in the person of Jesus Christ, who came from the Tribe of Judah through the royal lineage of David. Therefore, Jesus became known as the Lion of the Tribe of Judah.
