Hello everyone, hope everyone is enjoying their summer! Here's a video from our visit to Eastern Pennsylvania where we visited Dave Weber and his Mojave Subdivision G Scale Tehachapi Loop. The layout (yes layout, Dave emphasizes this is a model railroad not a garden railroad) was built by Dave and his son TJ in their backyard behind their home. Let's just say I should have taken my hiking boots and mountain climbing gear to get some of the video I did lol.
In the video you'll see several trains working their way up and down the grades of the Mojave Subdivision and the Tehachapi Loop. Since there were several people visiting the layout (Myself and Kyle, you'll see him a few times lol) you'll see some motive power not customary to the region the layout models. You'll notice the track roadbed looks a little different than most outside layouts. The track sits on top of two-inch re-bar reinforced concrete to help eliminate a lot of the track maintenance. You'll see multiple tunnels and some scenery including zoyza grass and dwarf spruce trees pruned to look more like what you would find in the region. In general the scenery is barren with small amounts of vegetation since the Tehachapi range is mostly in the desert. Dave said this was part of his reason for modeling the Tehachapi Loop areas as it would save him from having to buy tons of trees and plants for this massive layout covering roughly 6,500 square feet.
Hope everyone enjoys the video! Please put your questions and feedback in the comments section.
