Pike Place Market is a public market in Seattle, Washington, United States. It opened on August 17, 1907, and is one of the oldest continuously operated public farmers' markets in the United States. Pike Place Market is Seattle's most popular tourist destination and the 33rd most visited tourist attraction in the world, with more than 10 million annual visitors.
One of the Market's major attractions is Pike Place Fish Market, where employees throw three-foot salmon and other fish to each other rather than passing them by hand. The Gum Wall is a brick wall covered in used chewing gum under Pike Place Market in Downtown Seattle. It is located on Post Alley near Pike Street, south of the market's main entrance off 1st Avenue.
SEATTLE NEW WATERFRONT PROJECT
The new elevated park marks the near completion of Seattle’s multi-billion dollar Waterfront Park transformation—the largest civic project in Seattle since the 1962 World’s Fair. Overlook Walk is a bridge over Alaskan Way in Seattle, in the U.S. state of Washington. Completed in 2024, the bridge serves as a pedestrian path to connect the Central Waterfront district and Pike Place Market. Construction on the project began in June 2022.
