Kai Budde is the greatest Magic player of all time, but that wasn't always the case.
At the 1999 Worlds Championships despite his Grand Prix success Kai had never been in the Top 8 of a Pro Tour level event. Clearly a star on the rise but a player that had yet to convert his obvious skill into bigger tournament results.
Wielding a Standard deck packed with some of the most broken artifacts ever printed Kai and his team brought a deck so astonishingly powerful that by the time the Top 8 rolls around not only has Kai Budde all but secured his first ever Player of the Year title but he is burning down the countryside and his opponents with ease.
This is the origin story of Magic's GOAT, a Top 8 that ignited a truly absurd Pro Tour career and a look at one of the coolest deck names in MTG history.
This is the story of The German Dragon.
