A couple of Aussies embarking on the UK's original thru hike. The Pennine Way. Getting a ride from the Forest View Travellers Inn back to Trowes Farm we toiled back up the hill to Windy Gyle then continued along the Way past Kings Seat up to the junction for the summit of the Cheviots. Making our way across to the Auchop Cairn for photo opportunities we mistakenly started off along the wrong path but fortunately another hiker who we had not seen within the 23 days on the Way advised us of our wrong turn and guided us back onto the Pennine Way(i wonder how many other head down to the Hen Hole by mistake) A relaxing lunch stop at the Auchop Refuge Hut before being put to the test with a massive climb up to the Schil. And the views did not let us down. From there it was down hill to the decision point of taking either the high or low routes down into Kirk Yetholm. After 23 days of hiking and it getting to be late afternoon the low route was an easy decision(and we weren't the only ones). A beautiful walk down from the tops thru the bracken and farmlands to the metal road only to be cornered by cows with their calves.......again. A quick detour around them only to encounter a very steep road hill climb, surely there was an easier way around!!! Finally the last steps down to the finish line the Border Hotel to an unexpected welcome by the pubs patrons, very emotional for us all, then the confusion of where the actual finish mark was!!!
