The Reconquista is a significant event in the history of Christianity, when the united kingdoms of the Iberian Peninsula were finally able to repel the Muslim invaders. Its result was not only the victory of the Christians, but also the gradual unification of the disunited kingdoms of Leon, Castile, Asturias, Navarre and Aragon into one powerful state — Spain.
To achieve this, however, it took almost 700 years and hundreds of thousands of casualties among soldiers on the battlefields and civilians of the Iberian Peninsula. Kings of then still small but proud kingdoms made their contribution to the fight against Muslims of various caliphates and dynasties. In this video, you will learn how Castile rose from a province to become one of the most powerful Spanish states, how Christians fought against the great general Al-Mansur, how Portugal was born, and how the Catholic monarchs Isabella and Ferdinand finally defeated the Muslims and united the countries of the Pyrenees around their power.
