The Red Handprint Speaks: MMIW Special at Seminole Pow Wow 2025

🔴 Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP) Special | Seminole Pow Wow 2025 🔴 This powerful special was held Saturday night at the 2025 Seminole Pow Wow at The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood, Florida. This was one of three major specials of the night, bringing awareness to the ongoing crisis of Missing and Murdered Indigenous People (MMIP). What is MMIP? MMIP is a movement that sheds light on the alarming rates of violence, abduction, and murder affecting Indigenous communities across North America. Women, girls, men, and two-spirit relatives disappear at disproportionate rates, often without thorough investigations or media coverage. 🔹 Indigenous women are murdered at a rate 10 times higher than the national average in some U.S. regions. 🔹 Over 4,200 cases of missing or murdered Indigenous women and girls remain unsolved in the U.S. and Canada. 🔹 Homicide is the third leading cause of death for Native women under 24. 🔹 Many cases go unreported or misclassified, leaving families without justice or answers. Each dancer in this special wears red, a symbolic color representing the spirits of those who have been taken from us. Many also wear a red handprint over their mouth, signifying the silencing of Indigenous voices. The pow wow community comes together to honor and remember those who are missing and to keep their stories alive. ✨ Thank you for watching. This is my contribution to spreading awareness and keeping the movement going.
