Tulsi Gowda, an 82-year-old environmentalist from Honnali village in Karnataka, is renowned for her extraordinary connection with plants, able to assess their health with a mere touch. Over 50 years, she has planted more than 30,000 saplings, earning the title "Encyclopedia of Forest" for her deep knowledge of tree species, despite lacking formal education in botany. Initially working in the Karnataka Forestry Department's nurseries, she retired at 70 but continues to be a sought-after advisor by both the department and local villagers. Her lifelong dedication to forestry was recognized in 2020 when she received the prestigious Padma Shri award from the Government of India, acknowledging her significant contributions to environmental conservation.
