JOURNEY TO SCOTLAND : DAYS 1 & 2 – Rain, Roads, and Stunning Landscapes
Day 1 began with a rainy Sunday as I set off northbound for Scotland, filled with excitement despite a few teething problems. My camera had a mind of its own, causing a few hiccups in capturing the journey, and the campsite I had initially planned to stop at didn’t work out as expected. Thankfully, it was mostly motorway riding, so you didn’t miss much. The rain, coupled with the straight roads, made for a less-than-ideal start, but I knew there was plenty of adventure ahead to look forward to.
Day 2 brought a complete change in mood and scenery. Leaving Newton Stewart behind, I took a coastal route heading towards Gourock to catch the ferry to Hunters Quay. As the miles passed, the weather began to brighten, reflecting my growing excitement. Riding alongside breathtaking landscapes, glistening lochs, and winding roads, it felt like Scotland was unveiling its beauty with every turn.
One of the highlights of the day was riding through Glencoe for the first time. The sheer scale of the mountains and the dramatic landscapes left me in awe. It’s one thing to see photos or hear stories, but to experience the towering peaks and rugged terrain in person is something entirely different. The ride through Glencoe felt like a dream – every corner revealed another stunning view that made me pause in admiration. Words truly don’t do it justice.
After soaking in the incredible scenery, I made a quick stop in Fort William to stock up on supplies. From there, it was onward to Glenfinnan, where I planned to camp for the night. The campsite was tucked away in a quiet, serene spot by the river, offering the perfect place to unwind after a full day on the bike. The sound of the water flowing nearby and the surrounding natural beauty made it a peaceful end to an exciting day of riding.
Looking ahead to tomorrow, I can hardly contain my excitement about visiting the Isle of Skye for the first time ever. It’s been on my travel list for years, and now it’s finally happening. I can’t wait to see what this iconic destination has in store – from its dramatic coastline and picturesque villages to the rugged Cuillin mountains.
Despite a rocky start on Day 1, the journey is shaping up to be everything I had hoped for and more. Scotland’s landscapes have already left a lasting impression, and the best part is, there’s still so much more to explore. Stay tuned for Day 3 as the adventure continues towards the Isle of Skye!
