On June 27th, 1988, 21-year-old Parisian Resident Odile Mirrior was making her usual evening commute to pick up her children from school. She boarded a commuter train inbound to Paris Gare de Lyon. One of the largest train stations in France, one of the busiest in Paris. Little did she know that this trip would leave a massive impact on French Rail Travel. Boarding this train in the second carriage she was expected to travel to Vert de Maisons Station, just a few stops from Gare de Lyon. The actions of Odile would become a pivotal point but still one of numerous in a disaster that would claim the lives of 56 people.
The Gare de Lyon Rail Disaster turned what was a normal Monday evening into pure devastation. How did this happen? Just what was going on, onboard that train?
