The Sleeping Beauty: A Classic Tale of Love and Fate
A grand kingdom, a powerful curse, and a love strong enough to break the spell—The Sleeping Beauty is a timeless story where magic, destiny, and love come together in a tale of hope and triumph.
Prologue: The Cursed Gift
In the grand palace of King Florestan XXIV, the King and Queen celebrate the birth of their daughter, Princess Aurora. To honor her, they host a magnificent christening, inviting six kind fairies who each grant the baby a special gift—beauty, grace, musical talent, courage, kindness, and wisdom.
As the final and most powerful fairy, the Lilac Fairy, prepares to give her blessing, a sudden chill fills the air. The palace doors fly open, and the vengeful fairy Carabosse arrives with her dark servants. Furious that she was not invited, she blames the Master of Ceremonies, Catalabutte. In anger, she rips off his wig and strikes him with her staff. Then, she declares a terrible curse: when Aurora turns sixteen, she will prick her finger on a spindle and die.
The court is horrified. The Queen faints, and the King begs for mercy, but Carabosse only laughs. Before despair takes over, the Lilac Fairy steps forward. Though she cannot undo the curse, she softens it—Aurora will not die but will fall into a deep sleep for one hundred years. Only true love’s kiss will wake her. With this promise, hope remains.
Act I: The Birthday Omen
Sixteen years pass, and the kingdom celebrates Aurora’s birthday. She dances joyfully, and four noble suitors present themselves as possible husbands. However, despite the happiness, there is a feeling of unease. The threat of Carabosse’s curse still lingers.
During the festivities, a mysterious figure appears and offers Aurora an unfamiliar object—a spindle. Curious, she takes it in her hands. In an instant, she pricks her finger. Her smile fades, and she collapses. The court watches in shock as Carabosse steps forward, believing her victory is complete.
But the Lilac Fairy reminds everyone that Aurora is not gone forever. She casts a spell that puts the entire palace into a deep sleep. Vines and thorny branches grow around the castle, hiding it from the world until the day a destined prince arrives.
Act II, Scene I: The Prince’s Vision
A hundred years pass. The palace becomes a forgotten legend, covered in nature’s embrace. In a distant kingdom, Prince Désiré feels restless. During a hunt, he wanders into the forest, where the Lilac Fairy appears. She shows him a vision of Aurora, asleep in the hidden castle. He is immediately captivated and begs to be taken to her.
With the Lilac Fairy’s guidance, Désiré journeys to the enchanted palace. As he approaches, Carabosse makes her final attempt to keep her curse alive. She summons shadows and dark magic to stop him. However, with the help of the Lilac Fairy, Désiré overcomes the darkness and defeats Carabosse.
Act II, Scene II: The Awakening
Désiré enters the silent palace, where time has stood still. In the heart of the castle, he finds Aurora, her beauty untouched by the passing years. Moved by love, he gently kisses her. At once, the spell is broken. Aurora opens her eyes, and as she awakens, so does the entire palace. The King and Queen embrace their daughter, overwhelmed with joy. Désiré asks for Aurora’s hand in marriage, and the King and Queen give their blessing.
Act III: The Royal Wedding
The palace is filled with life again, now hosting a grand wedding celebration. Guests from across the land, including famous fairy-tale characters, gather to witness the union of Aurora and Désiré. Among them are the Bluebird and Princess Florine, Puss in Boots and The White Cat, and the Jewel Fairies—Diamond, Gold, Silver, and Sapphire.
Aurora and Désiré share a beautiful dance, symbolizing their love and destiny. As the celebration continues, the Lilac Fairy bestows her final blessing, ensuring happiness and harmony for the couple.
As the music fills the hall, Aurora and Désiré stand together, proving that even the darkest curse cannot defeat the power of true love.
