The film covers many aspects of the game, its social background and its appeal to players and public alike and tells of the origins of the M.C.C. and the Ashes and of the history of Lords and the Oval. It also features briefly many famous players, amongst them W.G. Grace, Spofforth, Trumper, Ranjitsinhji, Hobbs, Bradman, Larwood, Compton, Hutton, Graveney, Trueman and Sobers. The commentary was written and is read by René Cutforth.
