Its time for my 3rd annual top 10 comics list. In 2015 Divinity #1 from Valiant topped the charts with its cosmic God Like power, and in 2016 It was The Fix #1 from Image Comics with its dark comedy. This list is not simply superheroes but includes fiction from all different genres told in the comic book forum. Its almost a disservice calling them comic books which Graphic Serial Short Story is probably better but doesn't roll off the tongue.
7 of the top 10 "funny books" are indie comics meaning they are not produced by the Big two. DC and Marvel Comics. DC got 2 entries on the list and Marvel only got one. Some of this has to do with continuity. Marvel and DC have been publishing there main core characters for so long that its gotten confusing for readers on what is what and what is canon and what is alternative universe. The smaller publishers have not been around as long and there stories feel much more fresh and original and much tighter linear story telling! Marvel really ticked me off in 2017 with so many gimmicks like mashups of two different characters. Hulkverine and Gwenom and all of this other cotton candy story telling as I call it. A comics worth does not come down strictly to a cool cover or a gimick to sell more books like ratio variants but it relies on great art and story telling like it always has since comics made there debut in the early 1930's. I do a top 10 comic book list every year. Be sure to see my list for 2015 and 2016 as well.
