In 1978, William Afton and his young family arrived at Florida's IAAPA convention - an annual gathering in which amusement park and arcade vendors exhibit their wares to potential buyers. Afton, a puppeteer by trade, is immediately enamored by an invention by the awkward-but-brilliant Henry Emily: a programmable, performing animatronic.
William knew that he needed this technology, and he and Henry formed a partnership. Together, they would establish Fredbear's Family Diner and Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. William's children, Michael and Evan would become best friends with Henry's daughter Charlotte Emily, and it seemed like the future was looking bright for the young entrepreneurs and their families.
