Being “the strongest” is very self explanatory, you’re the best at what you’ve achieved. Within battle shonen this definition is more apparent given the context of fighting, you’ll probably find the strongest around with nearly or absolutely uncontestable power. Being at the top of the mountain invokes loneliness, you’re alone and the pinnacle itself is empty because of the very essence and fundamental idea of becoming the very best. This Cursed the strongest and brings extremely negative mental states even outside of Jujutsu Kaisen, but they can also manifest completely differently. Both my favorite examples are Satoru Gojo and Son Goku, both at different points become the strongest around and find themselves fueled by this adrenaline like drive to keep pushing themselves and their opponents even at the cost of others. When cracking a smile and truly enjoying the exhilarating feeling of pushing your own limits, both Satoru Gojo and Son Goku release this sadistic and battle hungry power that can never normally be pushed by anyone else in the universe. Jujutsu High is considering the idea that Gojo forgot about saving Megumi after seeing his spark of excitement against Ryomen Sukuna. Goku who originally turned Super-Saiyan from pure rage after the death of his best friend tells Frieza that this fight is over and he’s no longer willing to show him mercy, but after experiencing the thrill of pushing himself further against the strongest in the universe he continues fighting until he’s seen the point where he can no longer push those same limits. Satoru Gojo was born as “the strongest”, the dynamic and power balance that had existed for hundreds of years before his birth was completely shifted and moved the world just from the presence of another Six-Eye and Limitless user coming into existence. Awakening against Toij Zenin and becoming the “honored one” after nearly facing death for the first time in his entire life was what Gojo said was everything feeling correct. He couldn’t care about Riko deaths and even potentially doing something as monstrous as killing the star religious groups members despite them being non Sorcerers, nothing besides Geto changed his mind about his plans for cold blooded murder of those he’s given the role to protect. Son Goku is born Saiyan, that primal instinct for combat had been brought to ecstasy when facing his strongest opponents. When transforming himself into the legend of the race of those who fight for pure adrenaline and their lust for battle, Goku is drowned and consumed by his Saiyan instincts to the point where he tells Gohan he can’t control himself. These text boxes that are normally curved and completely softened are now given sharp edges and corners, normally Toriyama reserved this style of speech bubbles for villains and those with evil intent but now also for Goku transformed into the legendary Super Saiyan who’s clearly awakened his lust for battle that can only be pushed it’s the farthest by “the strongest”. Both Goku and Gojo are born with properties that turn simply being “the strongest” into starving themselves for another chance at pushing their very limits and finding the limit breaking point during combat. Despite them saying it outloud, you can clearly observe their fighting fueled exhilaration can come when facing opponents that can potentially give them the feeling of losing. What’s more miraculous and impressive than holding world records is when they’re surpassed, records are made to be then be broken and that’s truly unbelievable when we’re talking about “the strongest”. When your thrill for combat is powered within the blood coursing through your veins like Goku or that feeling of alignment with the world only being reached when you’re coming back from near death but more importantly the feeling of losing, you are battle hungry individuals that find this thrill better than anything that could possibly exist. Being the strongest manifests differently depending on the individual, I’ve said that already and that’s because you’d really see the distinction between Gojo and Goku having more positive and negative effects when standing at the pinnacle.
