Dark Lord of the Desert, god of storm, sower of chaos. A prehistoric deity whose role changed over 3000 years, the beloved protector of the kingdom, the highest of the gods, became the personification of evil, the devil of the Egyptians
Seth or Set. Although he belonged to the last generation of the divine Ennead, and his divine siblings were Isis, Nephthys, and Osiris, little is known about Set today. Certainly, one of the greatest mysteries of ancient Egypt is his animalistic representation.
Today, we often associate Set with evil, with the ancient Egyptian equivalent of the "devil." So why did one of the most powerful Egyptian dynasties, the Great Ramessides, make him their main patron? Who really was this ancient god of the desert, storm, and barrenness? Why was the sun god, Ra, his great supporter during the trial for the throne of Osiris?
