Ben Davy, the lead play-by-play announcer for the Barrie Baycats joined Neil Srivastava for the first episode of the Voices In Our Game Series. We hope to feature some familiar voices from around the IBL so you the fans can get to know their backgrounds a little more and in some cases allow you to put a face to the voice you hear on the broadcasts.
Here's a little bit about Ben
BEN DAVY returns to the mic as Lead Play-By-Play Announcer for his 11th season of Barrie Baycats baseball in 2025. Julius Hern will work alongside Ben for his second full season with the Baycats, calling middle innings and providing colour analysis during each broadcast. All home games can be seen live on Baycats TV, the official page of the Baycats on YouTube. Rogers TV will once again provide a simulcast for local cable viewers in Barrie.
Excitement and expectations will be high this season as the Baycats look to win a second consecutive IBL Championship. Last year, Barrie claimed it’s first title in 5 years after an undefeated run through all three playoff rounds, sweeping Toronto, London, and Guelph.
“I’ve never seen anything quite like last year’s Baycats club,” said Ben, when asked about their historic postseason run. “In many ways, the story lines from last year’s championship will continue on opening night, including the current streak of 93 consecutive completed innings without trailing. How far into the 2025 season can they keep this streak in tact? It will be fun to watch.”
Ben began his career as a broadcaster in Barrie in 1999, and since then has been a presence on the airwaves on both radio and television. When the Baycats are off, Ben enjoys spending time with his two teenagers, and DJ/MC’ing parties and community events. Ben also works in real estate full-time, serving clients between Toronto and Barrie.
The Baycats begin their quest for back-to-back championships on Thursday, May 15, at home against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
