This month we return to the actual bar build-out, folks! I spent the bulk of last summer building out an accent wall in the Lagoon. This is a vision I had way back when I started this whole crazy project, drawing on the "transition" motif popular in tiki as well as mid century modern design elements in the stonework. The wall is lava, folks! One might think that finding faux lava stone would be an easy thing, given the popularity of tiki in this modern era. One would be wrong. Oh, lots of companies make faux lava rock façade, sure, but as near as I can tell they only have it for sale in Hawaii--even those corporations with outlets throughout the continental U.S. Why? I have no idea--no sales reps could ever give me an answer. So I worked with what I had and created my own faux-faux lava rock wall. Come along and see how I pulled it off!
