The best way in my experience to determine what day length onions grow best in your region is to use your latitude. Long day varieties are for northern growing areas above the 35th latitude; short-day varieties are for southern. This is because, long day onions need 14 to 15 hours of sunlight to form bulbs, while short day onions need only 10 hours. You may find your latitude here: https://www.latlong.net/
