Welcome to Luka's World Railway Journey video.
In this episode, we explore the history and tradition of British railways.
When you think of British railways, steam locomotives are likely the first image that comes to mind.
We begin our journey in Newcastle, the city where the man who made steam locomotives practical was born.
From there, we take an express train and disembark in Darlington.
Darlington is known as the town where the world's first railway, the Stockton and Darlington Railway, was established.
Today, the station is part of the East Coast Main Line, with high-speed trains like the LNER Azuma and TransPennine Express's "NOVA1" passing through.

In the second half, we feature the UK's notorious railbus, the Pacer.
The line that once was the Stockton and Darlington Railway is now known as the Tees Valley Line.
The northern section from Darlington is nicknamed the Bishop Line.
Here, two-car diesel trains run, refurbished but still old. Until 2019, a small railbus called the "Pacer" operated here.
The Pacer was a budget-friendly train created by British Rail during financial difficulties.
It utilized bus parts for the body, seats, and drive system to cut costs.
From its introduction, the Pacer was known for its excessive shaking and noise, unsettling passengers across local and main lines in the UK.
However, the reasons for its unpopularity extended beyond its cheap construction and seats.
The Pacer's use on routes it was not designed for was another factor in its poor reputation.
Enjoy the unique and intriguing aspects of British railways in this video.
