Today we tear into a notoriously troublesome 1.0L Ecoboost 3 cylinder engine from a 2016 Ford Focus with 121k Miles. This engine was deemed bad by a local salvage yard and the car was dismantled and scrapped at just 8 years old over this engine failure. I bought this engine for parts to fix two "good" 1.0 engines that have external damage as those parts were good on this engine. These engines suffer catastrophic failures from multiple scenarios, the most topical being the wet oil pump belt. The stamped metal of the oil pump belt tensioner can fail causing the belt to lose tension, which then strips the teeth off of the pump belt, and those teeth and belt debris end up in the pickup tube starving the engine of oil. They also suffer from head gasket failure as the block design with a slit between the cylinders is prone to failure. Lets see what happened to this one, and what parts I can salvage from this engine.
Why am I doing this? My name is Eric and I own Importapart. A full service auto dismantler. Part of our model includes dismantling blown up, failed and otherwise bad engines to salvage the good parts. We do not rebuild engines, merely supply parts to those who do!
