In the early 1980s, KXJB-LD Wyoming station, KXJB-WY, experienced a disturbing event that came to be known as the "Wyoming Incident." During a routine sign-off announcement, the station’s broadcast was hijacked by a disturbing and cryptic signal. Viewers were confronted with unsettling, distorted visuals and garbled audio, which quickly led to widespread fear and confusion. The broadcast included bizarre, disjointed messages that prompted a surge of concerned calls and complaints. Speculation about the source of the intrusion ranged from malicious pranks to more sinister or supernatural theories.
In response to the incident and the public outcry, KXJB-WY decided to cease its operations in Wyoming and shift its broadcasts exclusively to North Dakota. The station offered no further explanation for the intrusion, leaving many questions unanswered. Years later, a well-preserved recording of the incident was discovered in someone's basement. Some parts of the footage had been adjusted for better viewing pleasure.
