Get ready for a lively blast from the past as we countdown the Top 10 One-Hit Wonders! These tracks skyrocketed to fame, only to see the artists who recorded them fade into the background of music history. From the band Kajagoogoo whose lead singer took them to #1 and then they canned him to Autograph who were a bunch of drinking buddies who jammed on weekends got a chance to open for the #1 band on the planet because their drummer was jogging buddies with their lead singer to a song by Nena that the label refused to release because it was in a different language until a DJ accidentally played it and it lit up phones lines… So they hurried and did an English translation but the foreign language one did better. We have great stories and interviews… NEXT..on Professor of Rock.

Today we are going to to discuss the 10 best Bottled Lightning Classics or 1 hit wonder of the 80s. by sharing a memory from a road trip I took long ago, from southern Idaho to the West Coast. As I journeyed across the desolation of eastern Nevada on Interstate 80, I recall the clarity of the night. The full moon cast its radiant glow, painting the arid landscape below with a kind of, velvety, deep purple sheen. On that journey, I had my faithful companion by my side: my music…
As I cruised through the vast desert expanse, a particular song engulfed me, whisking me away to a dreamy, almost surreal realm. It was none other than my #10 pick of the countdown, the 1985 bottled lightning classic .. "The Captain of Her Heart,” Double was the Swiss duo of Felix Haug (pronounced “Hog”) and Kurt Maloo. The two crossed paths during a jam session after the breakup of a nine-piece art band. Neither of them were household names, even in their native Switzerland, but their music slowly and quietly began to gain traction, rising organically on charts around the world. Their ascent to fame was subtle yet undeniable, gaining momentum without fanfare or flashy lights. “The Captain of Her Heart” steadily climbed into the Top 10 in the UK, Italy, Norway, Switzerland, and Germany. On the Billboard Hot 100, the song peaked at #16. It really found its home at Adult Contemporary, rising to #4: WITH ONE OF THE MOST RECOGNIZABLE piano figures of the 80s. One that soothes the soul and envelops the mind!
coming in at #9 as song that is on the line of being an 80s song but it was recorded at the end of the 80s, released in 1989 bit [ealed in early 1990…“Black Velvet” BY Alannah Myles: In 1989, a sultry, blues-infused tune emerged from Canada and took the world by storm. "Black Velvet," written by Christopher Ward and David Tyson, was brought to life by Alannah Myles, a singer-"Black Velvet" earned Myles both critical acclaim and prestigious accolades. In 1991, she took home the Grammy for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance, and the year before, the song was crowned Single of the Year at the Juno Awards. Since its release, the track has remained a radio staple.
