When visiting East Java, Indonesia an absolute must-do activity is going to Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park. Mount Bromo is an active volcano and seeing it and the other volcanoes in the middle of the night under the stars while waiting for the sunrise is an unforgettable experience. It's exceptionally beautiful and you can also walk around the Mt Bromo's caldera too.
In this vlog we share some our experience visiting Mount Bromo on a private tour for the sunrise as well as some tips and things to know before going.

We booked our tour via Klook and opted for the private 2 pax option which included pick up from our hotel in Surabaya as well as the private jeep ride and lunch too then return ride to our hotel. We chose the Bromo Sunrise and Savannah/Teletubbies Hills Tour combo as the other option was for Bromo Sunrise and Madakaripura Waterfall but checking with a few operators you definitely get wet visiting the falls which would've been not great for us with all our camera and microphone gear.

At King Kong Hill there are a number of little cafe stalls for some hot drinks and snack foods before you make your way over to the actual viewpoints.

⭐ TOP TIPS ⭐
- It's quite a long way if visiting from Surabaya (around 2.5 hours) so get some sleep in beforehand.
- The volcanic ash goes everywhere especially when it's windy so bring a mask/bandana, sunglasses and wet wipes come in handy for wiping it all off your face.
- Dress very warm with layers you can remove. It's extremely cold waiting at night for the sunrise (especially if it's windy too) then it gets pleasant to hot by the time you do the crater walk.
- Wear comfortable grippy shoes especially if you intend to go up to the highest viewpoint as there's no stairs so it's a bit of a scramble and quite slippery coming back down.
- The jeep ride across the Sea of Sand is very bumpy so if you get motion sickness easily, be prepared
NB: only 4WD vehicles and bikes are permitted to travel across the Sea of Sand to get to the viewpoints.
