On 30–31 January 2025, the Irish Architecture Foundation hosted the second Open House Europe Annual Summit at The Printworks, Dublin Castle, bringing together festival organisers, architects, and urban thinkers from across Europe. The public programme explored the theme of Accessibility and Inclusion, examining how cities can become more welcoming, equitable, and open to all.
This City Imagined—a discussion on Dublin, thirty years in the making—was the opening panel of the summit. It examined the transformation of Temple Bar, one of Dublin’s most significant urban regeneration projects. In 1991, a young group of architects, Group 91, won the competition to transform a rundown and nearly abandoned part of Dublin city, reshaping it into a vibrant cultural quarter. Over 30 years later, this panel discussion reflects on the legacy of that project, the architects who led the change, and the lessons it offers for future urban design.
At the summit, we were joined by John Tuomey, Shane O’Toole, Siobhán Ní Éanaigh, Valerie Mulvin, Yvonne Farrell, and Shay Cleary. The conversation was chaired by Christele Harrouk, Editor-in-Chief of ArchDaily, and Emmett Scanlon, Director of the Irish Architecture Foundation.
