The next episode of TIYL celebrates Formula 1 by featuring a distinctive driver who, unlike early starters such as Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, Oscar Piastri, Lewis Hamilton, and Charles Leclerc, began his F1 career in his early 30s. His father, an iconic and flamboyant F1 figure, set a formidable standard. However, our subject's journey to the top was not direct. Before his 1992 F1 debut with Brabham, he worked on a building site and as a motorcycle courier. His significant period at Williams, where he became well-known, began in 1993 when he replaced the cherished Nigel Mansell and partnered with Alain Prost, who secured his fourth title that year. The following season, he led the team through the tragic loss of Ayrton Senna, nearly seizing the title from Michael Schumacher in an intense finale in Adelaide, winning the hearts of fans nationwide and the BBC SPOTY Sports Personality of The Year award. In 1995, he rekindled his rivalry with Schumacher but finished a distant second as Schumi claimed consecutive titles with Benetton, who also won the constructors' championship. However, he triumphed in 1996, becoming the first world champion's son to win the title, a feat Nico Rosberg would replicate 20 years later. Ironically, just a year before this TIYL episode, he aided Michael in surprising the late Murray Walker, the voice of motorsport, with the Big Red Book. Now, in a twist, it's Murray assisting Michael as he presents the book to 1996 world champion and Sky Sports F1 pundit Damon Hill.
