I traveled to Nigeria to surf, explore, and run an ISA course for local surfers at Tarkwa Bay—a remote island with an incredible surf scene but a complicated history. Once home to thousands, the community was forcibly evicted by the military in 2020, leaving only a handful of locals behind. Despite the challenges, the surf culture here is growing, and I had the chance to train and accredit some of these surfers to teach lessons to tourists. This trip was more than just waves—it was about connection, resilience, and hope. Join me as I dive into the story of Tarkwa Bay, surf some fun waves, and meet the incredible people keeping the surf spirit alive in Nigeria!
